Having recently received a seven-year accreditation from the prestigious and respected Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing, the highest possible rating available and testament to the quality of the programs offered, UCQ is in a unique position to actively help achieve the goals of the Qatar National Health Strategy by educating qualified nurses to become the leaders, researchers, policy makers, educations and primary care givers of the future.
Graduates of UCQ receive an accredited degree equivalent to the internationally renowned and recognized program available in Canada at the University of Calgary. UCQ offers students two academic streams to achieve their Bachelor of Nursing degree: a four year option for those who have applied directly into the program and a Post Diploma Bachelor of Nursing option for working nurses who already hold a recognized diploma in nursing. Both programs are taught by certified Canadian nursing professors and educators committed to the highest level of academic standards.
As part of its commitment to education nursing leaders of tomorrow, UCQ is now offering a course-based Master of Nursing degree program based in the area of oncology. Due to the program’s popularity, plans are already underway to expand the graduate program to meet further demands in the Qatar health sector.
The popularity of the Master of Nursing degree program can be partly explained by the commitment to research that is exemplified on the UCQ campus. As a pillar of healthcare in Qatar, UCQ supports the Qatar National Research Strategy (QNRS) through both faculty and student-led research initiatives. Since 2010, UCQ has received more than 3.8 million USD in research funding in support of these initiatives. UCQ nursing faculty and students are committed to identifying key health issues and providing solutions that benefit the people of Qatar and their communities.
In addition to funded research initiatives, UCQ students engage with their community to help educate on matters of health and wellness. These activities help to achieve both the aims of the Qatar National Health Strategy and UCQ’s own mission, to excel in research and educational initiatives that will contribute to health and wellness in Qatar.
The University of Calgary in Qatar is the only international branch campus of the University of Calgary, a top-rated Canadian institution with more than 30,000 students and over 157,500 alumni.
