DESCRIPTION

Qatar Academy Al Wakra (QAW) is coeducational up till grade 5, segregated grade 6 and up, bilingual, serving the community of Al Wakra and surrounding areas. Founded in 2011, the mission of QAW is to provide the highest possible standards of education, which enables every student to achieve excellence and develop as an independent critical thinker, a lifelong learner, and a responsible citizen. The school will expand one grade level annually to reach Grade 12 by the 2021-2022 school year. The campus is located about 20 miles south of Doha in the seaside village of Al Wakra, with plans for a new facility to be completed by the 2016-2017 school year. The current facility sits on a beautiful campus with outdoor facilities including a football pitch, tennis court, basketball court, and covered play areas. Indoor facilities include bright and spacious classrooms with SMART Boards, iPads and Chromebooks are available for checkout, science labs, a library with 14,000 English and 8,000 Arabic titles, an art studio, a music room, gym, and an IT lab. The school is currently seeking candidacy for accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP). The management and development of the school is overseen by a board of governors.

QAW is part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development (QF). QF is a private, non-profit organisation that is supporting Qatar on its journey from carbon economy to knowledge economy by unlocking human potential, providing home-grown solutions for the benefit of not only Qatar, but the world. Founded in 1995 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, Qatar Foundation is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.Guided by our vision, mission and values, we are committed to excellence in education that nurtures the intellectual and personal development of our students. Education at QAW embraces a standards-based, culturally enriched international curriculum.

Our talented teachers go above and beyond to achieve QAW’s vision, encouraging and guiding our students to discover, learn and think creatively. Teachers collaborate and work across subject areas to develop students’ academic skills, inspire inquiry and foster independence. With the support of Qatar Foundation, our committed Board of Governance, our professional staff of teachers and administrators, we have the expertise to ensure that all our programs are continuously meeting the needs of our students and enhancing their learning experiences.

Since the school first opened in September 2011, until today, QAW has been able to further develop it’s programs, curriculum and facilities. We continue to add one grade level every year, and hire additional staff to meet the demands of our expansion.

We have ambitious plans for the future, yet we never lose sight of what is most important, our students. At the heart of all our planning is student learning. As the QAW community continues to focus on always putting students first, we will be able to fulfill the QAW vision and mission, and our promise to students and their families.
