Through our engaging curriculum (the IPC, IMYC and more recently, the Cambridge IGCSE,) we ensure that pupils can foster a passion for learning and curiosity that will help to develop high aspirations and a lifetime of memories. We have high expectations of what our pupils can achieve and strive to inspire all pupils to develop a love of learning through our creative curriculum, so they make good progress and attain their very best; becoming confident and successful individuals in our changing world.

CURRICULUM

THE PSI SCHOOL BRITISH CURRICULUM
At Pearling Season International School, we follow the guidance provided by the New National British Curriculum of England and Wales. This is complemented with the use of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC), they are an International and British Curriculum. This means that the grades given to each Pupil is based on the standards used in England & Wales, At PSI School we use the IPC and IMYC as a method of teaching.

Why the IPC and the IMYC?

They are comprehensive British curricula with clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for every subject, for personal learning and for international mindedness. The IPC and IMYC are now the British curricula choice of international and national schools in over 1,800 schools in over 90 countries around the world. We have chosen to be the first school in Doha to adopt the IPC and IMYC fully as they have been designed especially for meeting the needs of our international Pupils. The IPC and IMYC not only develop the academic side of the Pupil, but also seeks to develop and strengthen character, personality and attitude through team working, self-reflection and presentation/ audience skills. We truly believe it has great strengths and we believe this is the future of education.

How does it work?

With the IPC and IMYC we chose a topic or a theme which will become the center of all studies for a given duration (usually six weeks). For each topic there is a distinct learning process which provides a structured approach to make sure that children’s learning experiences are as stimulating and as challenging as possible. Teachers throughout each key stage and across all subjects get together to plan their upcoming six weeks, they link all their lessons to the chosen topic.

he Pupils will be engaged at the beginning of each topic either with an event, field trip or an activity as an entry point for their topic (Entry Point). By the end of the six weeks, Pupils will have to showcase what they have learnt through a project based task (Exit Point). During the six weeks, Pupils will implement different research, analysis, conclusions, trials and errors technique to help them acquire and implement the necessary knowledge.

This gives the Pupils the ultimate teaching experience with the following benefits:

• Pupils are taught the art of knowledge discovery.

• Helps Pupils connect the knowledge gained from all subjects together.

• Pupils learn to filter the information effectively and make calculated decisions.

• Enables the Pupil to implement what they learn into practical projects.

• Pupils gain the confidence to indulge into new challenges applying their learning for problem
solving.

• Pupils use multiple resources ranging from traditional books to modern personal Windows
Surface Tablet.

• Pupils recognise their strength, weakness and identify opportunities they wish to pursuit in the
future.

• Makes learning fun and pupils form a love for skills and knowledge.

This prepares Pupils to progress through the year groups focusing on different areas as they grow. Ultimately it prepares them for easy transition into Higher Education regardless of the country or system used. At PSI School we will be offering a choice of International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE) or the International Diploma (IB) depending on the Pupils’ grades and future plans. Below are our main focus areas as children progress from Pre-School:
IGCSEs (The International General Certificate in Secondary Education)
During the course of the Spring Term (Term 2), Pupils in Year 9 will select their academic options for the beginning of IGCSE courses in Years 10 and 11. This course of study is followed for two years in Year 10 and Year 11 with the certificate examinations being taken in the May or June of Term 3, each year. There is the opportunity to carry out a re-sit of any examinations if required, in the following November.
