Michael E. DeBakey High School – Qatar (DHSHP at Qatar) is a branch campus of the DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DHSHP) in Houston, Texas, USA. DHSHP is an award winning high school, offering students a college preparatory curriculum in science, mathematics, and medical science. It is an alternative to the traditional high school experience that prepares students for careers in medicine and science. In collaboration with the Outstanding Schools Oversight Committee (OSOC) of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), DHSHP was invited to bring the first medical science focused high school in the Middle East.

Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions at Qatar, an outstanding multicultural institution, provides a well-rounded program dedicated to academic excellence and character development. Our exceptional faculty prepares students to compete in a global society through a rigorous American curriculum focused on science, mathematics, technology, and health science. The DeBakey community works together to create a collaborative and mutually supportive family atmosphere in which every student succeeds.
Michael E. DeBakey High School – Qatar is named in honor of Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, the renowned heart surgeon and medical researcher. The school is located in Al Messila, in close proximity to the Hamad Medical Center. It opened in September 2008. DHSHP at Qatar campus offers a U.S. curriculum including extensive Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The program will serve students in grades 7 – 12. The Seventh and Eighth Grade Academy focuses on preparing students for the rigorous high school curriculum in grades 9 – 12. Beginning with the graduating class of 2013, Michael E. DeBakey High School – Qatar will offer these students a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, which includes five years of science and mathematics, courses in engineering and technology along with an excellent introductory study of medicine. Students will have the opportunity to have experiences with medical professionals as well as earn credit through on-line “Virtual School” courses, dual credit courses with local universities and college credit through AP exams.

Curriculum
The Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DHSHP@Qatar) was established to provide a comprehensive and challenging precollege academic educational program to motivate and enable students to pursue postsecondary studies in science, math, medicine, engineering, and technology. Students attending the DeBakey – Qatar will follow the prescribed four-year course sequence. As a result, each student will exceed the minimum graduation requirements. All students are required to participate in a health science course each year. Clinical learning experiences occur at medical institutions in Qatar. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 100 volunteer hours prior to graduation.

ADMISSION

Michael E. DeBakey High School at Qatar encourages families to begin the application process as early as possible. The application must be completed and supplemental application forms submitted, no later than June 1, 2016 to be guaranteed consideration in the first round of screening . The application, accompanying documents, and QR 600 application/assessment fee must be submitted prior to taking the Diagnostic Test.

HOW TO APPLY

The Admissions area of our website is designed to make the application process as simple as possible using our Online Application. Families must apply online as it simplifies submission and provides parents a tool for tracking online the status of their admission after their application has been submitted.

CREATING AN ONLINE APPLICATION

To begin the Online Application process, select Create an Account from the menu above. Then log into your account and Create A New Student Application for your child. You will then have the flexibility to log in and out of your account and access your open application.

Once online application is submitted, all required documents must be hand delivered to admissions office.

ADMISSION ASSESSMENT

Applicants are invited and required to complete our diagnostic test. This initial assessment does not guarantee placement at DeBakey High School – Qatar. If applicant earns a passing score on diagnostic test, an official Transfer Certificate must be submitted and approved before applicant is considered for registration / enrollment.
