DESCRIPTION

DBS Wakra Primary is a co-educational day school which offers an outstanding educational experience for both boys and girls aged 3 to 11 years old. Our campus currently caters for children aged 3 to 11 years old but a brand new all-through campus in Wakra will extend our facilities through to Secondary school.
We are one of the best known and most established schools in Doha and Qatar and are founded on the belief that all learners can, need and want to achieve. We also believe strongly that children should enjoy school and understand the world around them. Our ethos hinges on a dynamic balance of fun, play, academic rigor and discipline.
School life at Wakra Primary centers on a broad curriculum designed and delivered by an enthusiastic, very well qualified teaching staff. Through teaching the English national Curriculum, we instill a love of learning which inspires, challenges and encourages independence, and where children are free to take risks. Our curriculum has been designed for maximum support for pupils and their progress and attainment are carefully assessed and monitored across our learning framework.
The new Wakra Primary School has encouraged some excellent innovation in curriculum development and effective assessment strategies. BSO 2015
A range of after school activities and clubs extend timetabled subjects and games with every kind of interest and activity. Our children’s needs are at the heart of  DBS Wakra and pastoral care is paramount; discipline here relies on common sense, kindness and individual responsibility.
The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the students is a strength. BSO 2015
We have a very experienced, talented and motivated staff who ensure that every child has the opportunity to excel in all areas of the curriculum. DBS Wakra is successful in offering a first class education and is above all A school where learning comes first and where children learn how to learn rather than what to learn.
The overall standard of students’ achievement is often above the UK average and developing in-line with the performance of high achieving international schools.  BSO 2015
It is not possible for a written text to reflect the quality of life in our school. Many visitors comment on the friendliness of people at Wakra Primary and on the relaxed and yet purposeful relationships which exist between staff and pupils. We aim for all of our children to leave with self-confidence, the ability to problem-solve, an awareness of their own feelings and those of others, and enough self-control and self-discipline to manage effectively the often turbulent years of adolescence and life after school.

Curriculum
Doha British School Wakra follows a modified version of the National Curriculum of England 2014.

Core subjects, English and Mathematics, are followed as directed by the National Curriculum and are taught on a daily basis as separate subjects. Science, another core subject, is taught as both a discrete subject and as part of the Creative Curriculum.

The Creative Curriculum includes the teaching of all other subjects, as outlined in the National Curriculum, through a topic based curriculum that enables our children to link subjects and ideas together to make sense of their learning and the world around them.

As an International school we are very proud of our host country, its values and history. We adapt our history teaching to include Qatar History from Year 1 to 6 and this provides us with many opportunities for wonderful local history studies. Qatar history is taught alongside history topics taken from the National Curriculum.

Arabic, including Islamic Studies, or Spanish is also taught from Early Years Foundation Stage through to Year 6.
In addition to the National Curriculum 2014 at DBS we also include aspects of personal and emotional learning, the content of which includes the teaching of a range of values and skills that help to create a culture of success and harmony by teaching sensitivity to the needs of others alongside self-awareness and self-confidence, children learn how to behave as members of a purposeful community. These skills and attributes are delivered through weekly assemblies, class time and circle time.
