DESCRIPTION
Awsaj Teaching and Learning Center (ATLC) was established to serve students in Awsaj Academy who require intensive interventions. It also provides consultation and direct services to the Qatar Community.
The ATLC supports students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 who exhibit learning challenges and are living within the State of Qatar. Services offered to ATLC students include:
Assessment of individual student strengths and needs in academics, communication, motor, and cognitive skills
Development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Occupational Therapy
Psychological Services
Speech and Language Therapy
In addition to the above supports and services to students,
the ATLC also provides the following services to schools:
Input on creating inclusive learning environments
Professional development sessions
Parent training workshops

Services
Continuum and Type of Services Provided
Clinical and School Psychology Services are provided to individual students according to the needs outlined on their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Services include consultation with teams on developing and implementing effective behavior plans, managing difficult student behaviors, and/or diffusing aggressive/defiant behaviors in the school setting. Consultation also includes assistance in creating appropriate IEP goals and objectives, coaching and training staff in data collection methods, and applying appropriate intervention techniques and instructional strategies. Students may also be seen on a one-on-one or small group basis to work on learning positive pro-social school and interpersonal behaviors. These services are available to students enrolled in Awsaj Academy and our Outreach Program.
Occupational Therapy Services provide direct and consultation services to students according to the needs outlined on their IEPs. Services are provided in a variety of models depending upon the individual student need. Students may be seen on a one-on-one, small group, or full class basis. Some services are given within the classroom setting and others are provided as a pull-out service. These services are limited to students enrolled in Awsaj Academy.
Nursing Services provides school based health services from annual height, weight, and vision screening to management of on-going chronic or emergent health needs of students. These services are limited to students enrolled in Awsaj Academy.
Speech and Language Pathologist Services provide direct and consultation services to students according to the needs outlined on their IEPs. Services are provided in a variety of models depending upon the individual student need. Students may be seen on a one-on-one, small group, or full class basis. Some services are given within the classroom setting and others are provided as a pull-out service. These services are available to students enrolled in Awsaj Academy and our Outreach Program.
The Learning Center (LC) provides instruction in general education curriculum through either pull-out service in small group special education settings, instruction in general education class settings, and/or collaborative teaching with general education teachers. Students typically receive the majority of their instruction in the general education setting. The program is designed to provide as much, or as little, as the student needs in the way of specially designed instruction services in order for them to successfully access their education. Instruction is focused on IEP goals, which support progress toward competence in grade level learning targets/Power Standards. These services are provided by a licensed Special Education Teacher. These services are available to students enrolled in Awsaj Academy and our Outreach Program.
The Social Communication Classroom (SCC) is a specialized program that provides services to students whose Individual Education Plans (IEPs) have an emphasis on social skills and communication development, as well as, provision of sensory support. Services are provided through the implementation of practices researched to be effective in supporting students in those areas of need. These services are limited to students enrolled in Awsaj Academy.
Specifically, the following practices are incorporated into the classroom;
Visual systems for work completion, communication and organization
Structured classroom settings
Carefully planned schedules and transitions
Social-cognitive instruction
Modified environmental stimuli
Modified academic and/or life skills curriculum
Discrete trial teaching, pivotal response training, functional routines, and social skills routines

· A COPY OF FATHER'S OR GUARDIAN'S PASSPORT, INCLUDING A COPY OF THE VISA FOR NON-GCC NATIONALS

Curriculum
The curriculum at awsaj academy is based on local and international standards. Materials and resources are selected to support the teaching of the standards, with the end result focused on students fulfilling the awsaj profile of a graduate:
Graduates of awsaj academy will have:
• Proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English and Arabic.
• The knowledge and skills necessary to successfully begin post-secondary education or a career in Qatar or abroad.
